Dr. Shresta has a longstanding interest in understanding the biology and pathogenesis of human viruses including dengue and Zika virus as well as coronaviruses including SARS-CoV-2. Using state-of-the-art mouse models and human cell cultures Dr. Shresta has made significant contributions to our understanding of virus-host interactions, mechanisms of viral pathogenesis, immune evasion and protective immunity. Together with her international network of collaborators, Dr. Sujan Shresta has initiated epidemiological studies in Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam to create a biorepository of Asian viral isolates and human blood samples to understand viral adaptations and the role of the host immune system in disease severity and long-term protection.
